Invites applications for the position of:
Shortlist for: Elementary School Principal
The Successful Candidate will be placed on the Elementary/Secondary Principal shortlist for a maximum of two (2) years. Any candidates not placed within this period of time will have to reapply to the position.
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates that have previously applied and been unsuccessful in two (2) consecutive postings within the last twelve (12) months will not be considered for an interview.
The Successful Candidate will demonstrate:
● Dedication to Catholic education - a continuing desire and effort to develop and foster in staff and students
a Christian community based on the Catholic Faith;
● Commitment to the York Catholic District School Board’s Mission, and Vision and Strategic Commitments;
● Demonstrated classroom or administrative excellence as indicated through positive performance
appraisals, the interview and the application package;
● Strong professional knowledge of child/adolescent development and learning psychology, as well as a
demonstrated concern for children and youth;
● Knowledge of required learning outcomes (i.e., quality learning and enhanced faith);
● Possess and have demonstrated leadership qualities/abilities which foster a Catholic Learning Community
and effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities required of the position (identifying barriers to
inclusion, judgment, effective communication, collaboration, motivation, empathy, flexibility, dependability,
resilience);
● Commitment to advancing human rights and equity in schools and in the community; and
● Commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
● Part I of the Religious Education Course
● A current pastoral letter of reference (dated within the last 24 months prior to application)
● Ontario School Principal's Qualifications Part I and Part II as per Ontario Regulation 176/10 (Teachers’
Qualifications) made under the Ontario College of Teachers' Act. Candidates who are currently enrolled in
the PQP and are within two years of completion may apply and be considered for the position in
accordance with Ontario Regulation 298 (Operation of Schools – General) made under the Education Act.
Documentation to substantiate enrolment in the PQP must be provided at application;
● Completion of the YCDSB Discernment Series for Aspiring Catholic Principals prior to placement;
● Special Education Part 1 Course or the Special Education for Administrators AQ Course; and
● A minimum of (1) one (school) year experience as a Vice Principal in the elementary or secondary panel
as of June 30, 2026.

(1) Resume and Cover Letter.
(2) Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers.
(3) Pastoral Reference Letter.
(4) Names and contact information of three professional references: your current Principal and Superintendent plus one additional supervisor.

Confidential Principal Recommendation Form is to be completed by your current principal and submitted directly to Travis MacDonald, Acting Superintendent of Human Resources. This document will be sent directly to your current principal by Human Resources.
For external candidates currently in a Principal role, a Confidential Recommendation form is to be completed by your current Superintendent and submitted directly to Travis MacDonald, Acting Superintendent of Human Resources. This document will be sent directly to your current Superintendent by Human Resources.
