CUPE 2331 Supply Designated Early Childhood Educator

$32.89 per hour

 

Position Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the School Principal, and in collaboration with the classroom teacher, the Supply Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) supports the  planning and implementation of the Kindergarten Curriculum to facilitate experiences that promote each child’s physical, cognitive, language, emotional, social and creative development and wellbeing. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Engage children through play based, age appropriate activities e.g. telling or reading stories, singing songs and demonstrating the use of simple musical instruments. 
  • Prepare classroom materials as well as provide the opportunities for creative expression through media of art, dramatic play, music and physical fitness.    
  • Prompt and assist children with general washroom routines. 
  • Supervise and assist children with dressing/undressing. 
  • General supervision as outlined in the CUPE Local 2331 collective agreement. 
  • Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in early childhood education. 
  • Ensure an organized, and safe classroom environment, adhering to health and safety regulations
    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field of study in a 2 year post-secondary program. 
    • Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario. 

    Experience:

    • A minimum of one year of experience is required. 
    • Experience working with young children in a daycare setting.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
    • The ability to work as part of a team. 
    • Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment. 
    • Strong organizational skills. 
    • CPR and First Aid certification.
